Aloha Sistah Nami,

As I had said before, I have an interest in D.J. Printing Systems here in California. I have a copy of Uncle Rudy's book, "From God to God," and I was wondering if he would allow me to re-print it @ no cost to him or our Na 'Ohana Committee, for distribution at our up-coming reunion but I have lost touch with him since 1993 and 1995.

I offer this services' not as a commercial endeavor, but as a way of sharing his efforts with our Na 'Ohana members. This is just an idea, which I would never undertake without the permission of Uncle Rudy nor the Planning Committee.

Your thoughts.

I would be asking for donations to cover the cost of printing, binding, and shipping only...and the proceeds will be distributed to our Committee and or equally divided between Uncle Rudy for his time spent on his countless hours during his research...and our Planning efforts as seed money for any expenses toward future Hewahewa Nui 'Ohana events.

Respectfully submitted,

D.C. Maka'ena, Editah

Jess Sharing My 1st Trip Home since 23 Aug. 1961

I remembah dah 1st. time I wen go back home aftah 23 yrs away from dah aina! Aftah I landed....Wow! Wot happen to dah old Air Port? And aftah I got my rental car...and I followed the guy in front of me....who by dah wey was going inah wrong direction (I taughty I was heading towards Kalihi...but I got in dah wrong lane....lolo no?) I was told to turn right aftah I wen go pau Grind @ Byron's...Okazu Ya...you know dah place for catch "Plate Lunch."

N.E. wey, I ended up going towards Aiea...den I taught I can "Kahki" one right turn aftah I passed the Base-Ball Bleacha's @ Demon Track...But, "Wot happen to Damon Track?.....No Moah! So I figgah I would go pass Makalapa Gate, cuz I know dey nevah get rid of dat place...and suwah enough....dare it was....So now I'm all Jazz'ed cause I know Levy Bakery go'en be coming up so.......SURPRIZE!........Piggley Wiggley was Gone, dah Housing was Gone...I ended up turning right @ dah 49'er just pass John Gaspah's house and heading towards Aiea.

So....I figgah if I go pass St. Elizabeth Church...and head toward Triple Army Navy Hospital...I would end up pretty close to Ft. Shaffah, and den I would end up a Moanalua Park...weah I wanted to go to inah 1st. place.

Which iz weah dah old Grave Yard weah all my Ancestah's & Kupu's stay buried. Well I finally find dah place....but now stay in-between two houses...like one small drive-way wit one chain...wrapped around dah pole wid no mowah lock!

N.E. wey I park dah "Alamo Rental Car" on dah street and walk in dah drive-way dat leads into dah Grave Yard. I find our 'Ohana Plot weah my Tutu Man, and Tutu Lady Maka'ena stay, and next to dem iz dah rest of my Kupuna Kapu's....like my Great-Gramma Namakahelu Kapahi Kaua O Kamehameha Maka'ena........who was a good friend to Mrs. Gertude Mc Kinion Damon. (Which iz also dah place dat I wen go bury my mahdah, dah former Miriam Kawaipiilani Pai'kai-Maka'ena back in '97)

I'm sharing dis mele wit you fahlah...cause today iz dah 15th anniversary of my fahdah's passing:

Dah Sum Total

With open eye he greeted this world,
With open eyes he met that girl.
With open eyes they whispered "I do,"
With open eyes their life anew.

1st. came Paul, and 3rd. came Kalani,
Baby Doll and I shopping, and spending more money.
With Uncles here and Aunties there,
And thousands of cousins every which where.

So, with open eyes on better education,
California became our new destination.
Dad working days and Mom working nights,
Left the oldah Keed's to settle the everyday fights.

With open eyes they watched us grow,
Often saying "Yes" when they should have said "No."

P.J. was their first, and timely blessing,
Gram's hugging and kissing and tender caressing.
Then came Shannon, on H.J.-Julieann and my Niki,
Try feeding dem keeds; No...Not spoil, only picky.

And with open eyes Kaniela would Spy,
To Niele his cousin, Kealaka'i Ka'ika O Kena Kamae.

"Twas with open eyes, 26 days into May,"
I kissed that handsome face of:
Maka'ena, Henry Lumeheihie.

Composed by his #2 Son Dan Charles Kaleo'haalulu Maka'ena

Mahalo for your indulgence, I jess taught I would share my mana'o wit you guy's (and gal's too) on dis Memorial Week-end.

And if dat Asian man axe you, "Wen you 'Ohana going come up and Smell You Flau-wah?....Jess tell 'em, "Dah same time his venirable ancestah's..... come up and eat his apple and oranges."
